Perry D. Thompson, CTRC USN Retired, 1955-1975

I graduated from highschool in May of 1955 and started working for a 
mason as a mason helper.  As it turned out I was a helper for as many 
as 5 brick layers for $1.50 an hour.  Union mason helpers were getting 
$3.00 an hour carrying to 3 layers.  I'm a little slow but I finally 
caught on.  I told my boss that I would not be in the next day.  He 
asked me why and I said I'm going to join the navy.  He laughed and 
on July 4, 1955 I was on my way to boot camp ant Bainbridge.
