David (Dave) B. McDonagh CTR2 1968-1971 I was always fascinated in electrical and specifically radios. I would listen to my Dad’s AM radio at night attached a long wire antenna to it to see how if I could hear any stations from across the country. The next step was to build an old Crystal Radio which I found the design in Boys Life. Then one Christmas I received Knight Kit Span master Shortwave Radio Kit…put it together and started collecting QSL cards from around the world. I built other radios out of old parts and started to study for my Ham Radio license when I joined the Navy. While at Great Lakes in boot camp I was informed that I would be going to my A school in Pensacola to become a CT. Asked the Chief for more details on what a CT did, but he couldn’t really answer it. I attended the CT R school at Corry Field in Pensacola while there began to work on getting my Amateur Radio license. Ham Radio: WB8HOK
