Kent Beckert CTR1 USN/USNR 1966-1989 I joined the navy in Jan 1966 and became a member of Company 020 at Naval Recruit Training Command, San Diego, Calif. I had an aviation school guarantee entering bootcamp but during a training session where multiple companies participated a Petty Officer began to describe the various jobs in the Navy. During his presentation the PO mentioned the "Naval Security Group", mentioned the rating of CT and also mentioned that he didn’t know exactly what a CT did, and that being a CT required a Top Secret security clearance. The "Top Secret" statement made me curious and I applied. They checked my radio score and found out I could learn how to copy Morse code. I was disenrolled from the Aviation field and placed as a CT candidate. After bootcamp I was transferred to NTTC Cory Station, Pensacola, Florida and graduated from CT Class "A" school several months later. My first command was US Naval Radio Station, Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico. As a side note, my grandfather was a telegrapher for the railroad in the 30’s and 40’s. Kent Beckert CTR1 USN/USNR 1966-1989
