Cecil and Kay Draper riding their bikes
in downtown Sakata, May 26, 1962.

This picture is of our Japanese Gate Guards.
They would salute any and all American sailors
(Officers and Enlisted). When I told them that
they didn't have to salute me one guard replied,
"Oh no, Japanese Navy Greatest Navy in world.
Yet, you beat us. I salute you."
This is a picture of the two of the Japanese mess
cooks, waiters, bartenders, etc. that took great care
of us all at Sakata. Funo and Cecil. Funo was
nicknamed "Squat Low" because he would run
from table to table to wait on the sailors. He usually
screwed the orders up so everyone got in the habit
of ordering "Sukoshi zembu" (a little bit of everything).
