Rocky Couch, CTR3 USN, 1957-1961 I joined the Navy 7 days after my 17th birthday and go out 3 days before my 21st. When they gave me the basic battery tests in boot camp, Co. 152,July 1957,at Bainbridge Md,I scored well in morse code ,had some knowledge of it from the Boys Scouts. When it came time for the interview to let me know that I had scored well in the code and that radioman school was open for me,I asked him where the school was and he said right here in Bainbridge, but the class was not starting right away after I got back from boot camp leave, and that I would be mess cooking for a few weeks till school started.Well I didn't like that much,so I asked him if there was anything else,he said yes, there was a school like radioman's but different, he didn't know the difference,it was out in Calif. If I took it they would give me 4 or 5 days travel time added on to my boot camp leave.I jumped on it,no mess cooking for me,well wouldn't you know when I got to IB they told me the class wasn't starting for a few weeks and that I would be working in the mess hall. I also had to go to school at night to learn to type. You just can't beat them. I loved every minute of being a CT. Rocky Couch CTR3 IB 57 Wahiawa 58 Kami Seya 58-61
