DXbase2007 Users: Note: Let me first say that there are probably many ways to achieve a DXbase2007 installation on a Windows7 64bit machine; but, I wanted to present the way that I did it on my Windows7 64bit Home Premium laptop computer. The same thought process can probably be used for a VISTA machine or any other Windows7 machine. Your mileage may differ. If these instructions do not fit your style of operating, please feel free to disregard all of this. This install guide was done on a BrandNEW Windows7 64bit laptop - (e.g.: DXbase has never been installed on this computer). This install guide will not be a blow-by-blow description; but, will be an overview of the steps that I took to install DXbase2007 Version 1.09. STEPs to take to install DXbase2007 Version 1.09 : 1. Go to the User Account Control (UAC) and look for the "Change User Account Control settings". When in the UAC setting window, move the slider down to the bottom ( Never notify ). This will turn off the UAC. 2. Reboot/Restart the computer. 3. Setup your Registration (reg) file for install on a 64 bit machine as follows: Converting a 32bit Registration file to 64bit. Use notepad to open the registration file that you have for 32 bit. Replace the following line: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Scientific Solutions\Dxb2007] With the following line: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Scientific Solutions\Dxb2007] Save changes to a new filename so that you do not erase your original 32bit registration. To apply this new registration, double click the .reg filename. As always, save both the 32bit and 64bit versions of your REG file to a safe place. 4. Download DXbase2007 Version 1.09 from the "current download location link of": http://www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/DXB2007_109.zip 5. Extract the DXB2007.msi file to your desktop. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE !!!!!! When the Setup Wizard comes to the "Select Installation Folder" window - be sure you let it use the C:\DXBase2007 default that you will see. Run the DXB2007.msi file (Installer). Once the installer gets to the point where you are pressing the "Finish" button. STOP here and bring up MY COMPUTER. 6. In "My Computer" - doubleclick into the C:\DXBase2007 directory. Scrolldown and find the filenamed as: Dxb2007.exe (Application) .. LeftClick once on that filename and then RightClick once on the filename and a popup menu will appear.. Look for the word: "Properties" .. LeftClick on that "Properties" .. another popup window will appear .. Look for the TAB titled "Compatibility" - leftclick on that TAB. Look for the area with the words: "Privilege Level" .. in that area place a "checkmark" next to the phrase of: "Run this program as an administrator" .. Click Apply - then Click OK. 7. Double LeftClick on the Dxb2007.exe (Application) filename to RUN DXbase2007 now. 8. Fill-in your Full Name and your Main Callsign ... 9. When the "Select Database and Field Layout" window comes into view - click OK. 10. Once DXbase2007 Version 1.09 is Open -- Close the DXbase2007 program completely. 11. Find your SAVED DXbase logbook mdb file and save that mdb file to your C:\DXBase2007 directory - letting it overwrite the logbook mdb file that was just made during the install/first running of DXbase2007. Once you have your current logbook mdb file saved to the C:\DXBase2007 directory - STOP again .. 12. Since the "Installer" you just executed was made a while ago, you will NEED to update your Refdata.mdb file that was made during the current installation .. so, Go to Joe's Ham Radio website and download the most current UPDATER at: http://www.navycthistory.com/wa6axe/2007chkmdbs.html Download the most current Updater from the bottom LINK on the above webpage. MAKING SURE that you read and did actions required on ALL of the instructions on the above webpage. 13. Since this is a BrandNEW machine - it is going to be VERY important that you did follow the steps involved in getting the dao350.dll file saved to the proper directory and "registered" !! 14. Go into My Computer again and while in the C:\DXBase2007 directory - find the following filenames and do the same process as spelled out in step 6. (above) - this action will setup each of the filenames to be able to "Run this program as an administrator" : Ugdxbase.exe Import.exe Dxbutility.exe 15. Now that you have your current logbook mdb file in-place and has been updated (if needed); and, your refdata.mdb file is uptodate -- Run the DXbase2007 program again .. when it opens up, do an "Initialize Tables". 16. Now SETUP "fully" the User Options and User Personal Options. Also, setup your Bandplan and Alternate Bandplan. If needed, also update the Digital Submodes.. These digital submodes are user editable and are updated with your needs in mind. 17. Since this a brand new installation on a brandnew computer - doublecheck each and every option that is in DXbase2007. 18. For more information about this issue, see the "Known issues" section. This section contains steps to re-enable these macros by modifying a registry key. If your computer is in a managed environment, do not follow these steps without first consulting with your IT department. IT departments may decide not to re-enable macros or they may decide to re-enable them by using group policies. IT departments will want to read this article in its entirety before you continue. Warning This article offers information about how to work around issues that are caused by changes in this release of Windows Help. However, Microsoft makes no specific recommendations about which registry keys and which values are right for your unique environment. If you are in a managed environment, your IT department is the best judge of how to weigh the advantages of these workarounds against the risks of using them. The safer course is to use no registry workarounds at all. Note To perform the steps in this task, you must be logged on to the computer by using an administrator account. By using an administrator account, you can make changes to your computer that you cannot make with any other account, such as a standard account. To log on by using an administrator account, you must know the password for an administrator account on your computer. If you are performing these steps on your personal computer, you are likely already logged on with an administrator account. If you are performing these steps on a computer at work, you might have to ask the system administrator for help. To have us fix this problem for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you would rather fix this problem yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section. Fix it for meTo fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard. 19. At this point you will be ready to use DXbase2007 Version 1.09 for everyday use. Good Luck!! 73 Joe wa6axe
