John R. Faylo, CTR2 USN, 1966-1970 I graduated from a small town high school in western Pennsylvania (Sharpsville Joint Senior High School) in 1965. After one year of part time college while working full time, I received my notice to report for my draft physical in Pittsburgh. Being catagorized 1A, I was told I would receive my draft notice in two weeks. The following day on my lunch hour I visited the Naval recuiters office and enlisted on the 90 day deferred entry program. I reported to RTC Great lakes in August of 1966 and was assigned to Company 527. I had no prior knowledge of Morse Code or Radio Theory prior to my enlistment, but aced the quick code test given to us during aptitude testing. Received orders to report to NCTC Pensacola in November of 1966 for "R" School. Graduated with Class 24B in May of 1967 with orders to report to NAVCOMSTA Adak in June. Upon arrival there was given a crash course in HFDF operations with several others and worked the CDAA for a year there. After Adak, received orders to report to USNSGA Hakata Japan in July of 1968 doing the same type of work. In May of 1970 I was included in the 90 day early out program and was seperated at Treasure Island CA as a CTR2. Looking back, the time spent in the NAVSECGRU was a rewarding one and went so fast. Made many good friends and am just happy that that doing well on that quick code test ("I" "N" and "T") led me into a rewarding career while enlisted. John Faylo Former CTR2
